Clinical Observation on Endoscopy

Abstract
"A clinical observation was made on one thousand and seventeen cases of endoscopy, performed in the Department of Urology, Kyung Hee University Hospital during the period from January 1, 1977 to December 31, 1978. The results are summarized as follows. 1) During the period, of 5,480 patients visited, 987 patients were examined endoscopically, giving a rate of 18%. 2) The age was ranged from 3 to 91 years old and the most favorable age was in 30 to 49 years old in 49.9%. The sex ratio, male to female, was 1 : 1.4 3) The common diseases, diagnosed endoscopically in male, were bladder neck contracture 126 cases (29. 2%), posterior urethritis 109 cases (25.3%), benign prostatic hypertrophy 51 cases (11.8%) but in female, chronic urethritis was the most common disease in 419 cases(71.5%) and the next subacute cystitis 37 cases (6. 3%), bladder tumor 13 cases (2.2). 4) In male, endoscopy was indicated most commonly due to infravesical obstruction symptoms such as hesitancy, forceful urination, small urinary stream in 78 cases (20.6%) but in female most commonly due to bladder irritation such as frequency, tenesmus, urgency in 239 cases (48. 4%). 5) Main symptoms in female urethritis were frequency in 197 cases (47.0%), tenesmus in 156 cases (37.2 %), suprapubic discomfort in 59 cases (14 %). 6) The most common cystoscopic finding in female urethritis was trabeculation in 226 cases (53.9%). 7) The panendoscopic findings in female urethritis were classified into 4 groups by Kim`s method The most common group was group IV in 189 cases (45.1%) which showed marked inflammatory changes on bladder neck and urethra. 8) The meatal stenosis was observed in 27.8% of 806 female patients, checked endcscopically."
